Compliance Standards¶
LAIRA (Layered Autonomous Inference and Reasoning Agent) | Airwai, Inc.
This section is the source of truth for how the Airwai LAIRA platform maps onto the regulatory, standards-body, and DoD frameworks that govern airfield, roadway, and right-of-way condition assessment in the United States.
Matrices are organized by asset class because that's how the AEC industry and the regulators that serve it are structured. Each matrix anchors to one or more standards, lists every capability, and ties every status flag to a specific section of a specific standard.
Matrices by asset class¶
Aviation¶
| Matrix | Subject |
|---|---|
| Civil Airfields | LAIRA capability vs. FAA Part 139, ASTM D5340, ICAO Annex 14, TSA — civil and commercial airports |
| Military Airfields | LAIRA capability vs. UFC 3-260-16, UFC 3-260-04, AFI 32-1041, STANAG 7181 — DoD installation airfields |
Roads & Highways¶
| Matrix | Subject |
|---|---|
| Federal & State Roads | LAIRA capability vs. ASTM D6433, 23 CFR Part 490, FHWA HPMS, AASHTO R 85 / R 36 / R 48 / M 328, state-DOT exemplars (Caltrans, TxDOT, FDOT, WSDOT) |
| Military Roads | LAIRA capability vs. UFC 3-270-08, UFC 3-270-01, ASTM D6433 (DoD-adopted) |
| Parking Lots | LAIRA capability vs. ASTM D6433 (parking-lot portion), PROWAG R208, ADA Title III §502 |
Right of Way¶
| Matrix | Subject |
|---|---|
| Sidewalks & Curb Ramps | LAIRA capability vs. PROWAG 2023, 28 CFR Part 35 (ADA Title II), 2010 ADA Standards Ch. 4 |
| Roadway Markings (MUTCD) | LAIRA capability vs. MUTCD 11th Ed. (Dec 2023) Part 3, ASTM E1710 |
Supporting references¶
| File | Subject |
|---|---|
| Status Legend | Shared icon scheme used by every matrix (✅ / ✅+ / 🔄 / 🔶 / ℹ️) |
| Source Registry | Canonical, schema-shaped index of every authoritative source cited across the matrices |
Status legend (quick reference)¶
| Icon | Status | Definition |
|---|---|---|
| ✅ | Meets | Capability deployed and delivering the output the standard requires |
| ✅+ | Exceeds | Measurement resolution or capability surpasses the regulatory threshold (often by an order of magnitude) |
| 🔄 | In Development | Active engineering effort with committed delivery |
| 🔶 | Partial | Delivers value with documented caveats (screening estimate, calibration dependency) |
| ℹ️ | Different Paradigm | LAIRA addresses the underlying need differently than the standard envisions |
See the Status Legend for the full reference and audit-posture notes.
Citation discipline¶
Every spec or status claim in this section is traceable to a public source. The pattern:
- The matrix row cites a standard section (e.g.,
D6433 §X1.14.2.2). - That standard has an entry in the source registry with
id,primary_url, and (when public)pdf_url. - When a matrix references LAIRA's own measurement (e.g.,
crack width ±0.7 mm), the spec lives in the Product Reference and is treated as the product source of truth.
If a claim doesn't terminate at one of these three, it is by definition not audit-ready and should not appear in customer-facing material.
Versioning¶
Each matrix has a Prepared <date> header. When a matrix is materially updated (new standard added, status flag flipped, capability claim revised), the date moves forward and the change is captured in the commit message.
Roadmap¶
Additional matrices are on the roadmap per the DOT/AEC market map and coverage plan:
- Aviation: Heliports & Vertiports (FAA AC 150/5390-2C), ICAO International (Annex 14)
- Roads & Highways: Toll Roads & Managed Lanes
- Right of Way: ADA Title III (Commercial)
- Bridges: NBIS + AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation (Tier 2)
- Ports & Terminals: PIANC WG 165, AASHTO heavy-duty industrial pavement (Tier 3)
- Rail: AAR + AREMA for intermodal yards (Tier 3)
- Institutional & Campus: PROWAG + ADA reuse for REITs, healthcare, higher-ed (Tier 2)
Conventions for contributors¶
- Markdown-first. Tables in GitHub-flavored Markdown; the docs site renders the rest.
- No
.docxor.pdfartifacts checked in. Generate those at build time from the markdown. - Standards-body PDFs are public-domain when issued by FHWA, the Access Board, UFC (DoD), FAA, AFCEC, FHWA-LTPP. ASTM and AASHTO publications are pay-walled and must not be mirrored into this repo (metadata + link-out only via
source-registry.md). - One source of truth per fact. Cross-reference rather than duplicate. When a sensor spec appears in more than one matrix, both sites defer to the Product Reference.
